King of Kings Lutheran Preschool serves the families of our surrounding communities and our congregation as a loving environment for children as they take their first school steps. As followers of Christ, we profess a Christian faith. However, we do not assume that all of the children in our care are of such a faith and we are respectful of other faith perspectives.
Our preschool opened in 2002 as a ministry of our church and to serve our community. Our staff consists of a director, teachers, teaching assistants, a music teacher, an office assistant, and a floating assistant. Our teachers have a minimum of a B.A. or B.S. degree, as do most of our teaching assistants. All staff members have experience in early childhood education and earn a minimum of 16 certification hours in professional development each school year. Each classroom is staffed with a teacher and a teaching assistant. Our teachers work closely together to create a developmentally appropriate curriculum and plan special activities and events.
Once a week each class has a scheduled Music Time with our professional music teacher. Our music teacher is certified in Early Childhood Music and Movement, and has a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. Our four year-olds also enjoy a monthly Story Time with a professional librarian.
Our preschoolers enjoy several in-house field trips throughout the school year. Our favorites include musicians, theatrical performers, puppeteers, community helpers, science, and fitness.
In 2014, we began offering ESOL classes to preschool parents and grandparents at no cost. Space is limited.
Our building includes four classrooms and a large fenced-in playground with a bike deck. All school related activities take place on the church campus. We have access to the church kitchen and use the fellowship hall for our in-house fiels trips, indoor recess (during times of inclement weather), parent coffees, and receptions. The children spend time in the sanctuary for Chapel Time, evening music programs, and other scheduled activities.
King of Kings Lutheran Preschool is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services. Each staff member has on file a Criminal History Records Check and Central Registry Report conducted by Child Protective Services. Additionally, all staff members are certified in CPR and First Aid, PMAT, and have a current negative TB test on file.
King of Kings Lutheran Preschool is a Christ-centered, nurturing community, welcoming all children while recognizing and respecting the strengths, gifts and unique qualities of each child.
King of Kings Lutheran Preschool serves as a ministry to the children and families of King of Kings Lutheran Church and as an outreach to our community. We recognize every child as a unique gift from God to be loved, nurtured and appreciated. We partner with families in providing a secure and caring environment, recognizing the importance of the early years, and providing a spiritually rich and developmentally appropriate learning environment. We believe that some of the best learning experiences come through self-discovery and play.
We strive to provide for the growth of the children spiritually, socially, and emotionally, while advancing their intellectual and physical development in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.
